Sex offender in son photo ban

A High Court judge has refused to allow a sex offender who killed a woman to be given a photograph of his young son in prison.

Mr Justice Cobb ruled that the man could be shown a photograph of the youngster, but could not take any picture into his possession.

The judge said concerns had been raised that a photograph might get into the "wrong hands" in a jail, a nd concluded that allowing the man to be given a picture would not be in the boy's best interests.

Mr Justice Cobb made the ruling after a hearing at the Family Division of the High Court in London.

He described the case as "exceptional" and said nothing should be reported which could identify the youngster.

The man was given a life sentence after being convicted of rape and murder, the High Court heard

He has been in custody for some time.

The man wanted to stay in touch with the boy and had asked if he could have pictures, said the judge.
