Sheeran ignores Twitter mentions

Ed Sheeran has revealed he ignores his Twitter mentions in case they include abusive messages from internet trolls.

But the s inger-songwriter advised anyone else who receives offensive messages to imagine the people behind the messages.

"The ones that actually do that stuff and sit inside and write nasty tweets and nasty comments are quite weird people themselves," he told Sky News.

"I know you can't see the person writing it but just imagine they're morbidly obese in front of a computer in a very, very dark room, because that's usually what they look like."

The British musician has just published his autobiography, Ed Sheeran: A Visual Journey, and said he wrote the book to show young people that there is an alternative to higher education.

He said that for a job in the arts "you don't necessarily need a degree, you just need experience and hard work, and start off at the bottom and work your way up".

In the book, which contains photos from the star's childhood, Sheeran also gives advice to aspiring musicians on how to make it in the music industry, saying having no back-up plan meant the only option was to succeed.
