Slaughterhouse horses stuffed with cannabis seized at Cairnryan
Horses being transported from the Republic of Ireland to a slaughterhouse in the UK were seized after port officials at Cairnryan discovered the vehicle carrying the animals contained £500,000 worth of cannabis.
A police dog alerted the authorities to the suspicious cargo, according to the Daily Mirror, but it wasn’t until closer inspection when vets were called in that hundreds of thousands of pounds were found rolled up and hidden in the animal’s backsides.
A USPCA chief told the paper that this recent discovery has laid bare the current misuse of animals for illegal activity.
The driver of the vehicle and his passenger were arrested under drug charges. The driver remains in custody while his friend has been released on bail.
