Stars unite with Rio Ferdinand as wife's funeral is held
Football stars have turned out to support their friend and former colleague Rio Ferdinand at the funeral of his wife Rebecca Ellison (34).
The mum-of-three died earlier this month after a short battle with breast cancer.
Former manager Sir Alex Fergson and players including Robin van Persie, Edwin van der Sar, Darren Fletcher and Nemanja Vidic attended the private ceremony.
After his wife's death Ferdinand (36), who now plays for Queen's Park Rangers in London, had said: "My soulmate slipped away last night.
"She was a fantastic, loving mother to our three beautiful children.
"She will be missed as a wife, sister, aunt, daughter and granddaughter.
"She will live on in our memory, as a guide and inspiration."
The couple married in 1999, when Ferdinand was playing for Manchester United.
His sister Sian showed her support at the funeral and tweeted: "Family is everything.
"Don't know what I'd do without my mad lot." Sian also thanked people for their condolences and said it "hasn't gone unnoticed and we appreciate it all".
Queen's Park Rangers manager Chris Ramsey told reporters that Ferdinand would be given time and space to decide what he wanted to do next.
"We are not going to push anything or even mention anything to him," he said.
"There are some things greater than your job.
"If he decides to come back and train and make himself available he will be in contention to be picked."
"He is obviously devastated and everybody at the club just wishes him the best.
"Hopefully he can bring his family through it in the professional way that he has handled himself all the way through a very difficult time."
