A stolen wheelchair belonging to a four-year-old girl has been recovered after a tip-off from a member of the public.

Sarah Cooper had appealed for the return of the specially adapted wheelchair for her daughter, Lydia, who has cerebral palsy and the brain condition hydrocephalus.

Thieves broke into the family home in Warrington, Cheshire, over the weekend and took presents from under the Christmas tree. The heartless raiders also stole keys to a silver Ford Kuga and drove off with the Action 2 wheelchair inside the boot.

Ms Cooper described the wheelchair as "a lifeline" for her daughter.

Detective Constable Vicky Goodwin said: "After seeing the publicity a member of the public called us last night to say a Ford Kuga had been parked up in Bowring Park Road in Liverpool.

"We recovered the car and thankfully the wheelchair and the children's car seats were still in situ, but there were no presents in the car.

"We're still appealing for witnesses and thank the media and the public for their continued support.

"Anyone with information should contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 413 of 20 December 2015.

Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
