Third man held in fire deaths probe
A third man has been arrested by detectives investigating the deaths of a young mother and her 15-month-old son in an arson attack.
The 35-year-old, from the Maidstone area of Kent, was held on suspicion of murder on Sunday evening, Kent Police said.
He will be questioned over the blaze which killed a 20-year-old woman, named locally as Melissa Crook, and her son Noah in Chatham at around 2.30am on Saturday.
Two other men arrested on suspicion of murder, one aged 37 and a 23-year-old who, according to sources, is the estranged husband of Ms Crook, remain in custody.
Police will ask magistrates for more time to question the pair following their arrest on Saturday, a spokesman said.
Ms Crook's father, Mark, suffered life-threatening burns in the attack while her mother, Amanda, suffered burn and smoke inhalation injuries. Her brother, Bohdan, 21, was also hurt while trying to escape the flames.
