Toddler critically ill after crash
An 18-month-old girl remains critically ill in hospital after she was hit by a motorbike.
The toddler and her twin brother were injured, along with their mother, when the bike crashed into their pushchair.
Police and the ambulance service were called to City Way, Doxford Park, Sunderland, after the collision in the road on Wednesday.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said the girl was initially treated at Sunderland Royal Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), Newcastle.
She said: "The boy is currently at Sunderland Royal Hospital where his condition is described as stable.
"The girl remains in the RVI at Newcastle where her condition is described as critical and potentially life-threatening."
The twins' 26-year-old mother and the motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man, were treated in hospital but their injuries are not thought to be serious.
"Police continue to carry out inquiries to establish exactly what happened," the spokeswoman said.
"Officers have informed the next of kin and are providing support to family members."
Police appealed for any witnesses to call 101, extension 69191. The road was closed for three-and-a-half hours to allow for investigations to be carried out.
