A former teacher at an elite boys' school who stored and made thousands of indecent images of children has been spared prison.

Anthony Fuggle (58) was a classics master at Colet Court, the junior division of St Paul's Preparatory School in Barnes, London, whose past pupils include Chancellor George Osborne.

The ex-teacher, from Sutton, Surrey, was caught in 2013 after monitoring procedures discovered concerning pictures on his work computer, on which he had also tried to access inappropriate sites.

He admitted six counts of possessing indecent images of children, some boys as young as 12, and seven counts of making indecent images of children on or before September 10, 2013.

Jane Humphryes QC, defending, said her client had tried to address his problems. "He's been seeing a therapist," she added.

Fuggle was sentenced to four months' jail, suspended for two years, after a hearing at Kingston Crown Court. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for six years and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.
