Two 14-year-olds have made their first appearance at crown court after being charged with murder.

The boy and girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are accused of killing 49-year-old Elizabeth Edwards and her 13-year-old daughter Katie.

The victims were found dead at a property in Dawson Avenue, Spalding, Lincolnshire, on Friday afternoon.

The accused both appeared at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday afternoon, after previously appearing at the city's youth court earlier in the day.

The boy, wearing a navy blue jumper, and the girl, in grey, only spoke to confirm their names.

They have both been remanded into secure youth accommodation until a plea hearing on June 27.

A trial date has been set for October 17.

Flowers have been laid on the lawn outside the property in Spalding with tributes including a framed picture of the mother and daughter titled "gone but not forgotten".

Relatives of the victims have also paid tribute on social media sites - with a teenage friend of Katie describing her as being "like a sister" and Ms Edwards as a second mother.

Ms Edwards's partner, Graham Green, wrote on his Facebook page: "My babe has gone but you will always in my heart forever and ever and ever.

"The lady meant the world to me she was my rock. Katie so young lots of good times in front of us been taken away r.i.p."
