Weapons of choice for burglar-wary householders
Almost a quarter of people in the UK have admitted to keeping a weapon handy in case they are burgled.
And 14% of those said their weapon of choice was a hammer or other heavy object which they keep close at hand to fend off an intruder at their home.
Other ‘weapons’ include knives, ornamental or replica swords or baseball or cricket bat while 3% revealed they keep a firearm to defend their property against burglars.
The figures, revealed in a study for comparison website Gocompare.com found that 91% of householders said they believed they should be allowed to defend their homes with lethal force.
