Woman killed by falling shop sign

An investigation is under way after a woman was killed by a falling shop sign.

The incident happened outside the Waterstones book store in Blackpool yesterday.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Constabulary said: "Police were called at about 5.30pm to a report that a sign had fallen from the front of the Waterstones Bookseller's store on Bank Hey Street in Blackpool.

"A woman, believed to be in her 70s, received serious injuries and sadly died at the scene. An investigation is under way."

It is not known if the accident was weather-related.
