It was another right royal day at Cheltenham yesterday, with Zara Phillips and her mother, Princess Anne, gracing the festival.

While former equestrian champion Zara was all smiles, her mum looked somewhat more tense as she took in the action.

The Princess Royal obviously had a keen interest on the outcome of the race.

Meanwhile, the long wait for the Cheltenham debut of former Olympic cycling champion Victoria Pendleton was finally over and there was a buzz around the course as her race loomed.

There had been much debate in the lead-up to the race about whether she was capable of competing and if she should have stuck to two wheels instead of four hooves.

Pendleton herself admitted to being nervous and said that she would be happy just to make it around the demanding jump circuit.

In the event, she managed to stay aboard her mount and finished a creditable fifth.
