A security alert is currently underway in west Belfast after a possible quantity of explosives were discovered at a property.

The alert was triggered on Sunday morning after suspicious items were found at a house on Broom Close in Twinbrook.

Police said the search was part of an investigation into dissident republican activity.

Sinn Fein councillor Stephen Magennis tweeted that he had been told explosives were found at the property.

A 57-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the search. She remains in custody this afternoon.

In a statement the police said: "Some suspicious items found during a search are being examined."

There are no further details.
