15 killed in Afghanistan suicide bomb blast

At least 15 people have been killed by a suicide bomber who detonated his explosives among a crowd of shoppers at a market in northern Afghanistan.

The powerful explosion in Faryab province's Almar district also left 38 people injured, acting provincial governor Abdul Satar Barez said.

Both civilians and Afghan troops were among the casualties, he added.

Deputy provincial police chief Baryalia Basharyar said the "target of the attacker were military forces that were present in the area but the majority of the victims were innocent civilians".

Mr Barez also said he fears the final death toll may be higher as many among the wounded are in critical condition.
