2 dead, 62 hurt in two rail crashes
One person was killed and 52 others injured when two trains collided on a line in China which runs to Tibet, state media said today.
The crash at East Golmud station in Qinghai province last night marked a rare mishap on the railway to the remote Himalayan region.
An announcement on the website of Golmud's propaganda department today said an empty passenger train ended up on the wrong track and collided with a train arriving from Xining, the provincial capital.
Broadcaster CCTV said one person died and 52 were injured. Local authorities and the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company were not immediately available for comment.
Meanwhile, in north-eastern China, a passenger train collided with a truck loaded with coal early today, killing one person and injuring 10 others, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
