Twenty-two people are feared dead after an Ecuadorian military plane crashed south-east of the capital of Quito.

Ecuador's army said in a statement that the Israeli-made Arava cargo plane was being used for parachute training when it crashed about 90 miles south-east of the capital.

President Rafael Correa's official Twitter account expressed "deep sorrow" and said he was waiting for a full report on possible victims.
