Airline passenger has ear bitten off on Jet2 flight to Ibiza
Holiday goers watched in horror as a passenger had half his ear bitten off during a packed flight to Ibiza.
The young man in his early twenties reportedly almost lost his ear during a brawl on a Jet2 flight from Newcastle to Ibiza on Sunday evening.
The flight to the party island was carrying a mix of young clubbers and families when the man came running down the cabin covered in blood with his ear "hanging off”.
"There were screams from a group of young women on board and parents tried to shield their children's eyes from the gruesome sight,” reported the Mirror.
One passenger told the newspaper that the attack appeared to have taken place as the plane came in to land.
"It was absolutely sickening and I find it unbelievable that anyone would do that at all to another human being," they said.
“To bite someone's ear off on a plane packed with other people at such close quarters and with families sitting around him is absolutely appalling… people were getting off the plane complaining of feeling physically sick afterwards.”
Following the attack, the passenger was taken to a Spanish hospital in an attempt to save his ear.
It is understood that he is still receiving treatment.
A Jet2 spokesperson said the company was “working closely with Northumbria Police and the parties involved” to fully investigate the reported incident.
“This was an incident that no one would want to witness, and we would like to assure everyone involved that we are treating it with the seriousness it deserves.”
