Amsterdam's 'space cakes' go animal-friendly
Thursday, 4 October 2007
Amsterdam's coffee shops have begun using free-range eggs in their hashish " space cakes" to reduce the suffering of chickens.
"Owners were completely unaware and shocked that their space cakes were not animal friendly," said a spokeswoman for the Dutch animal rights group, Wakker Dier.
Four cafes have switched to free-range eggs with 20 more planning to follow.
The shops use hundreds of eggs a week for the cakes which are baked with marijuana to give an intense high.
