US man proved innocent after 15 years in prison
Thursday, 3 July 2008
The US authorities are set to free a Dallas man who has been proved innocent after serving more than 15 years in prison.
Thirty-eight-year-old Patrick Waller was jailed for life following a robbery and kidnapping in 1992.
However, DNA tests have now proved that he was innocent and his conviction is expected to be overturned today.
Waller is the 19th person to be exonerated by DNA evidence in Dallas County since 2001.
The DNA evidence has also led police to identify the two actual perpetrators, but they will not serve any time in jail because the statute of limitations has long since expired.
