Blasts near poll candidate's home

Two suicide bombers have struck near the home of a candidate running for president in Afghanistan's April 5 elections, a police official said today.

He said one attacker detonated his car and the other set off his explosives vest near the home of presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai in the capital, Kabul.

The official, Sayed Gul Aga Hashmi, said police are hunting a third suspect who was involved in the attack.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was hurt in the bombings.

The Taliban claimed in a statement to media that they were behind the blast, saying they targeted a Kabul election centre.

The insurgents have vowed to disrupt the April 5 elections, a poll which will choose Afghanistan's next president and provincial council members.
