Bombs in Iraq's Diyala province kill at least 42

At least 42 people have been killed after two bombings in different neighbourhoods in Iraq's eastern Diyala province.

A car bomb exploded in a marketplace near the provincial capital, Baquba, killing 35 people and wounding at least 72.

And a suicide bomber blew himself up in a residential area in the province's Kanaan district, killing seven people and injuring 15.

Residents in Diyala have been calling for greater protection from security forces after the Islamic State group bombed a crowded marketplace last month, killing 115 people, including women and children.
