A Briton has gone on trial on terrorism charges in Kenya.
The man, identified as Jermain Jhon Grant in court documents, sat silent as the prosecution's first witness gave evidence in a magistrate's court in the coastal town of Mombasa.
Grant faces charges stemming from what Kenyan police say was his role in a failed terrorist plot in Kenya late last year.
The witness, Hassan Mohammed, said he helped Grant find a Kenyan wife. He said Grant lied to him about his identity and nationality.
Grant is already serving a jail term for being in Kenya illegally.
Kenya has been on high alert for possible terrorist strikes after sending its troops into Somalia last October.
