Bush senior remains in hospital

Former US president George HW Bush is remaining in hospital two days after experiencing shortness of breath.

Family spokesman Jim McGrath said the 90-year-old father of ex-president George W Bush "had another terrific day and is in great spirits" at Houston Methodist Hospital.

He said Mr Bush was visited by his wife Barbara and son Neil on Christmas Day. He was admitted to hospital on Tuesday night in what was reported as a precaution.

Mr Bush, the oldest living former American president, suffers from a form of Parkinson's disease that has forced him to rely on a motorised scooter or wheelchair.

But he has also skydived on at least three of his birthdays since leaving the White House, including a tandem jump for his 90th birthday in June.
