Cat-sized rats invade city

Rats the size of cats are attacking children as they terrorise residents of a South African city.

Public safety chiefs in South Africa have detected the extra large vermin gorging themselves on public food supplies, amid reports that they have infested homes, injurying householders.

Port Elizabeth resident Catherine Rockman said her son, (5), had to be taken to hospital after one rat tore skin from his leg.

Another victim said the mutant rats were so big that poison had no effect. “They have taken over. You hit them with a broom and they just look you in the eye,” the Daily Mirror reported.
