Cheney had secret resignation note
Former US vice president Dick Cheney has revealed that he had a secret resignation letter signed and stored in a safe throughout most of the administration of President George W Bush.
He said he signed the resignation letter in March 2001, about two months after taking office.
Only the president and one of Mr Cheney's staff members knew it existed.
Mr Cheney said one of the reasons for having a resignation letter on hand was his history of health problems, including multiple heart attacks. He said the letter could have been used if he was ever incapacitated by a heart attack or stroke.
He revealed the secret letter in an interview with NBC News to promote the coming release of his new memoir.
