Chicago police shoot 'gunman' dead

Chicago police have shot and killed a man in the city's South Shore neighbourhood after officers said he pointed a gun at them.

A Chicago Police spokesman that officers heard shots fired at about 10.10pm yesterday and saw a van driving away. A male passenger jumped out of the van and began running.

The man, whose identity and age were not released, pointed a gun at the officers. One officer shot and killed the man.

Police said a weapon was recovered at the scene and no officers were injured. The shooting is under investigation.
