A couple plunged to their deaths while attempting to take a selfie with their children on the edge of a cliff.

The Polish family were on holiday in Portugal and visiting the cliffs at Cabo da Roca on the west coast.

Portuguese authorities are now investigating the incident, although it is believed the couple were taking pictures of themselves when they fell.

Rescue workers had to give up their attempts to recover the bodies that night due to weather conditions on the Atlantic Ocean.

They eventually found the bodies on Sunday having resumed their search.

The children are now in the care of Polish diplomats and are currently seeing psychologists after the traumatic event.

Cabo da Roca is a popular destination for tourists in the area and it is the far western edge of Continental Europe.
