Police in western China who came under attack from "terrorists" shot eight of them dead and captured a ninth, the authorities said.
The Xinjiang government news portal Tianshan Net says the group of nine attacked police today in Kashgar with knives, and by throwing explosives and burning cars.
A Xinjiang government press officer confirmed the report but said he had no more information.
