Chinese vets baffled as bull grows a fifth leg

A bull is baffling vets after growing a fully-formed extra hoof and leg from his back.

Farmer Zhang Tiang, 37, of Dingfang, China, noticed the leg as soon as the calf was born but thought it would wither away and fall off.

Instead it grew to become exactly the same size as the beast's other four legs.

Medics believe it could either be the result of a genetic mutation or the remains of a twin calf that was trapped inside the bull's body during its mother’s pregnancy.

Vet Kong Hsu of the Guizhou animal welfare clinic explained: “It doesn't appear to be troubling him so there is no need for an operation.

“It's most likely a twin that didn't separate properly.”
