The bodies of all eight people on board a US Marine helicopter that disappeared during a relief mission in the earthquake-hit Himalayan nation have been recovered, Nepal's army has said.

Nepali and US military personnel were at the crash site in the mountains north-east of the capital Kathmandu.

The wreckage was first spotted by Nepalese troops and army helicopters yesterday. The discovery followed days of an intense search involving US and Nepalese aircraft and US satellites. The aircraft went missing while delivering aid on Tuesday.

The helicopter was carrying six Marines and two Nepalese army soldiers.

A separate team sent by the US Marines said they identified the wreckage as the missing helicopter, the UH-1 "Huey" but so far have not identified the bodies.
