Clint Eastwood backs Mitt Romney for president
Clint Eastwood has given his backing to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney ahead of November's US election.
The Dirty Harry star said he was backing Mr Romney over current president Barack Obama because, in Eastwood's own words, "I think the country needs a boost."
The Oscar-winning actor and director was speaking at a fundraising event in Sun Valley, Idaho.
"Now more than ever do we need Governor Romney. I'm going to be voting for him," Eastwood told Romney supporters at last night's fundraiser.
Romney was delighted by the endorsement. "He just made my day," he said. "What a guy."
Eastwood is Romney's highest-profile celebrity backer so far. Speculation had emerged that the 82-year-old star would be supporting President Obama following an advertisement he had made titled 'Halftime in America' that screened during the Super Bowl in February. At that time, Eastwood told Fox News that he was not supporting any politician.
