CNN mistakes sex toy banner for ISIS flag at London Pride
CNN is being mocked online after mistaking a banner with sex toys for an Isis flag at the Pride parade in London.
Reporter Lucy Pawle said she was leaving work on Saturday when she spotted the “unnerving” sight of the man waving the banner on Regent Street.
"This man dressed in black and white waving what appears to be a very bad mimicry of the Isis flag, but a clear attempt to mimic the Isis flag, the black and white flag with the distinctive lettering,” she said, adding that she had alerted the police to its presence.
"If you look at the flag closely, it’s clearly not Arabic, in fact it looks like it could be goobledegook, but it's very distinctive - the ISIS flag.”
The segment was billed as an exclusive and had 'Isis flag spotted at gay pride parade' displayed across the bottom of its rolling coverage for seven minutes. It also brought in a terrorism expert to analyse flag's presence at the march.
British comedian John Oliver also took a swipe at the “idiocy” of the network on his Last Week Tonight show.
CNN has now deleted the clip, and Ms Pawle posted on her Twitter page that she "reported no such thing." She later retweeted some posts poking fun at her.
You take a nap for one hour and come back to dildo ISIS flags...— Christopher Hayes (@chrislhayes) June 27, 2015

@lucypawle I spotted a boy with bow and arrow aiming at the crowds on top of a fountain at Piccadilly Circus. Can you do a report?— Matt Kelly (@mk1969) June 28, 2015
