Coffin of JFK 'killer' sold wrongly

A Texas judge has ruled that the original coffin in which accused JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald was buried belongs to his brother, not the undertaker's that auctioned it for nearly £60,000.

Oswald's brother Robert sued Baumgardner Funeral Home after it sold the pine coffin for 87,468 dollars (£58,312) in 2010.

State district judge Don Cosby ordered the firm to pay the same amount in damages to Mr Oswald, 80, saying its conduct was "malicious and wanton".

Lee Harvey Oswald, accused of assassinating President John F Kennedy in 1963, was shot dead during a jail transfer two days after Kennedy's death. His body was exhumed in 1981, but the coffin was too damaged for reburial.

The lawsuit says Oswald's family thought the coffin had been thrown away, but it was actually kept in storage.
