A man who says he is the father of a baby who was cut from her slain mother's womb said last night that he wants custody of the baby girl.
A hearing was scheduled in Worcester Juvenile Court in Massachusetts, US, to determine who should get temporary custody of the 4lb (1.8kg) infant.
Her mother, 23-year-old Darlene Haynes, was found slain in her Worcester apartment last Monday.
The baby was found two days later at a homeless shelter with Haynes' former neighbour Julie Corey, who has been charged with kidnapping and is being held on $2m (€1.4m) bail.
DNA tests are being done to establish paternity of the child.
Roberto Rodriguez (24), Ms Haynes's estranged boyfriend, said he wants custody of the baby and of an 18-month-old girl he had with Ms Haynes.
“I just want my two girls. That's all I want,” Mr Rodriguez said.
