A Danish cargo ship has been attacked by pirates in the Gulf of Aden, according to reports.

Danish news agency Ritzau quoted Claus Bech, manager of the Shipcraft shipping company, as saying that the ship, Leopard, came under gunfire early on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Bech told Ritzau the company had not had any contact with the crew since then.

Ritzau says the ship is crewed by four Filipinos and two Danes, one of whom is the captain.

The Gulf of Aden is in the Arabian Sea between Yemen and Somalia.

The Leopard's cargo is unknown.
