A State Trooper has been honoured with an award for saving a truck driver's life after coming to his assistance 12 minutes before an ambulance.

Trooper Eric Devers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol was first to arrive at the crash scene in Miami County  earlier this year, with a dash cam picking up some of the distressing incident.

The video shows Mr Devers  running past the broken highway barrier to get to the crashed truck, where the injured man is out of sight. Throughout the two minute clip, the driver can be heard taking gasping breaths, while the trooper encourages him to keep breathing.

“Don’t you die. Don’t you die on me. Come on. Open your eyes.”

Once paramedics arrive, the driver was taken to a local hospital, where he made a complete recovery.

According to the patrol, Devers’ actions saved the man’s life.
