Former Partridge Family heart-throb David Cassidy has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police in the US said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said his car was stopped after it was spotted allegedly weaving and nearly causing an accident.

Cassidy told a trooper that he had a glass of wine at lunch and a hydrocodone pill after that.

Troopers reported finding a half-empty bottle of bourbon in the back seat.

The FHP said Cassidy failed a test carried out at the scene and two breath tests.

Cassidy posted 350 US dollars (£215) bail and was released from jail.

His spokeswoman, Jo-Ann Geffen, reportedly said the star admitted taking a painkiller and being tired from attending a funeral, but insisted he was not drunk.
