A man suspected of fleeing the scene of a New York crash that killed a pregnant woman and her husband has been arrested at a Pennsylvania convenience store.

The couple's baby was delivered prematurely after the crash on Sunday and died.

Easton's The Express Times newspaper says a judge held a video hearing on Wednesday for Julio Acevedo.

The judge said Acevedo will be held in Lehigh County Prison in eastern Pennsylvania while awaiting an extradition hearing today to address his return to New York.

Authorities say Acevedo was speeding down a Brooklyn street early on Sunday when he crashed into a car carrying the couple.

He has told New York's Daily News he was fleeing a gunman who was trying to shoot at him.
