Deer delivers severe beating to hunter

Tuesday, 2 December 2008

A hunter has been injured after the deer he shot and apparently killed got back up and attacked him.

Randy Goodman, 49, thought the two shots he fired from his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck which he hit while hunting in Missouri.

Goodman said the deer appeared to be dead - but seconds later the 240lb animal got to its feet, knocked Goodman over and attacked him with its antlers.

Goodman described the attack as '15 seconds of hell,' as the injured deer tried to gore and stomp on him.

The animal then attempted to flee the scene but the hunter was able to recover and this time shot it twice, after which it really was dead.

After the incident, 49-year-old Goodman drove himself to hospital and received seven stitches to his head.

Although I don't agree with hunting or killing wild life for the fun of it, I am in two minds on this situation. Here in Canada, about two weeks ago, we had an incident on Lake Simcoe where two hunters were hunting deer. Part of the the lake was not completely frozen and the young buck fell into the water and would have surely drowned. As it was struggling to get back up on the ice, the two hunters saw this, went to it, and held onto the deer. They then called the Ontario Provincial Police who came out and they rescued the animal. From reports, the animal did not panic or attack the two men as they held onto it. It obviously knew they were trying to save it. The hunters were asked why they risked their lives to save an animal that they were trying to kill. Their answer, "Don't know, something came over us".

This is a factual event.

Nature at its best from both species.

The reason there isn't enough food is because us humans have been building sky scrapers and houses and shopping malls and we are taking all the forestry away! Talk about over population and not enough food- then look at the third world nations, do you want to kill them too???

You people no nothing about conservation and hunting, hunters are the biggest contributors to conservation and care of the land, you tree huggers run around spouting off about animal rights, if it wasn't for hunting these animals, deer, moose, elk etc especially here in North America they would be dying of stravation and disease at there are so many of them and not enough food to go around.
So understand the facts before you spout off.

Murder?!?! Hunters are some of the world's biggest wildlife conservators. They will be the first to call the authorities when they spot a poacher just slaughtering an animal for no reason. Most hunt to provide for their families. You know the tradition where people actually go out and hunt and kill animals to eat. Is that murder or is it just necessity? While it may seem odd to those who haven't grown up in an environment where you don't now the difference between going hungry and going broke is to get your own meat. Why did God put animals on the earth if not to eat them.
