The Eiffel Tower has been closed to visitors after a terror suspect was spotted at the world famous tourist attraction.

The alarm was raised after an unidentified man was seen going up the tower with a large rucksack.

Hundreds of tourists were evacuated from the area while police searched for the suspect.

However, despite police efforts he remains at large.

Police sources say the man could be an extreme parachutist planning a jump from the tower.

The tower, which is the most popular paid-for tourist attraction in the world, has been the target of terrorist plots in the past.

In 2014, French police foiled a plan to bomb the tower by an Algerian butcher living in the south of the country.
