Emmanuel Macron causes anger with 'get some jobs' jibe at workers

President Emmanuel Macron has caused an outcry in France with comments that workers at a struggling company should "get some jobs".

Mr Macron used vulgar language in his remarks.

During a visit to Egletons training school in central France on Wednesday, Mr Macron said "some people, instead of screwing everything up, they would better see whether they can get some jobs".

He was referring to workers worried about job losses at a nearby factory who organised a demonstration on the sidelines of his visit.

Many politicians from the right and left expressed anger at the comments on Thursday, considering them disrespectful to the unemployed.

Mr Macron's popularity rate has plunged as his government starts to implement labour reforms.

He is increasingly criticised as the "president of the rich".
