England fan hit by bike in Brazil

An England fan has been hit by a motorcycle as he crossed a street in the World Cup host city of Belo Horizonte.

The Belo Horizonte police department identified the tourist as 25-year-old Mark Fisher of Penrith, Cumbria.

A spokesman said the motorcyclist fled the scene of the accident.

Mr Fisher, who suffered several bruises and a fractured tooth, is in a local hospital where he is in stable condition.

He was in Belo Horizonte to watch England play Costa Rica.

Police in Belo Horizonte later said gunmen had opened fire on a group of men in a bar watching yesterday's match between Brazil and Cameroon.

A spokesman said nine men were wounded, four critically, but added that the gunmen belonged to a drug trafficking gang settling accounts with a rival group, and that "the shooting had nothing do with the World Cup".

He said the shooting occurred in a slum "far away" from Mineirao Stadium and the areas visited by tourists in town for the tournament.
