Ex-head of animal charity for trial on fraud charges

The former head of the USCPA will stand trial accused of defrauding the animal charity.

Stephen Philpott (53), from Ashgrove Road in Newry, appeared at Newry Crown Court yesterday where he was accused of attempting to cause criminal damage to a house and its contents belonging to David Sinton, the theft of rental monies belonging to the USPCA for a property on Clogharevan Road in Bessbrook, and fraud by abusing his position, all alleged to have been committed on dates between January 2005 and November 2014.

Mr Philpott was released on continuing bail ahead of his next appearence at Newry Crown Court on September 14.
