Extradite lion killer Walter Palmer, United States told
Almost 150,000 people had signed a White House petition last night calling for the dentist who killed a protected lion in Zimbabwe to be extradited back to the African country to face justice.
Minnesota man Walter Palmer (55) has become an international hate figure after he killed the popular lion named Cecil with a crossbow.
The petition, which opened on Tuesday, urges Secretary Of State John Kerry and the Attorney General Loretta Lynch "to fully co-operate with the Zimbabwe authorities and to extradite Walter Palmer promptly". In Zimbabwe, a hunting guide and a farm owner appeared in court accused of helping Dr Palmer. They were reportedly paid £32,000 to track and kill a lion. The head of Zimbabwe's safari association said the big cat with the black mane was lured into the kill zone and denied "a chance of a fair chase".
Dr Palmer has advised his patients to seek care elsewhere as he remained in hiding amid protests at his US clinic.
