Falling tape measure kills man on street below US construction site
A man has died after a tape measure fell 50 stories from a construction worker's belt on a building site and hit him on the head.
The unsuspecting delivery man, 58-year-old Gary Anderson, had just parked his truck and stepped from the vehicle to take drywall to the site in Jersey City on Monday morning when the one-pound measuring tape struck him on the head.
It had fallen from 400 feet from the top of the apartment tower, bounced off a piece of metal equipment and shot at Mr Anderson.
He was knocked unconscious and taken to Jersey City Medical Center, but died shortly after.
A spokesman for the company said Mr Anderson was delivering their product at the time of the accident but was employed by an independent trucking company.
Jersey City Department of Public Safety said he was not wearing a safety helmet at the time.
