Family rescued in US national park

A man and his two children who had been missing for more than two days in the vast woods and swamps of a US national park have been found alive and well.

The National Park Service said rangers had located JR Kimbler, his 10-year-old son and six-year-old daughter in Congaree National Park, South Carolina .

Officials said the three did not appear to be seriously hurt and were taken to a local hospital for observation.

Search crews travelling by plane, boat and on foot had been looking for the family in the 27,000-acre site since the father sent a text message late on Saturday saying they were lost.

Officials closed the park yesterday during the search.
