Fatal fire at Saudi pilgrims hotel

A fire at a hotel housing religious pilgrims in the western Saudi city of Medina has killed 12 people and injured at least 130.

The Medina governorate said that the blaze broke out in the east of the city, and that some 700 guests of different nationalities were staying at the hotel.

There was no immediate word on the identities or nationalities of the casualties.

Medina is a major religious tourist destination for Muslims. The city is the burial site of the Prophet Muhammad and is Islam's second holiest city after Mecca.
