A powerful firecracker has been detonated inside a branch of the Bank of Cyprus, the country's largest lender.

The state-run Cyprus News Agency quoted police sources as saying the explosion late on Sunday caused some damage to the branch in the suburb of Limassol and that the scene has been cordoned off.

News website Sigmalive says two people smashed a glass door and set off the firecracker, but arriving firefighters quickly doused the flames.
