More than 50 American Airlines flights have been delayed in the past two days by a glitch in navigation-map software loaded on pilots' iPads.

Pilots are having to delete and reinstall the map app, airline spokeswoman Andrea Huguely said.

Twenty-four flights were delayed last night and about 30 today, she said.

Since 2013, all of American's pilots have used iPads containing maps, aircraft manuals and other material. For each pilot, the tablets replaced about 35 pounds (16kg) of paper.
