Flooding kills four in Riviera

At least four people have died in torrential rain along the French Riviera as flooding transformed roads into waterways.

Officials in the Var region at the centre of the storms said a woman's body was found in La Londe-les-Maures, and rescuers were searching for her eight-year-old daughter.

Another woman died there yesterday when the town was hit by flash floods.

The statement said the body of a third woman was found on a beach in nearby Hyeres, and the body of a man was recovered in Cogolin, futher east.

More than 600 rescuers, including divers, are combing the picturesque Mediterranean region for others who might have been trapped by floods that inundated homes.

Forecasters have predicted no let-up in the rain and heavy wind.
